A modified version of the mental health literacy scale (MHLS) in Iranian people

Abstract Background The risk rate for the lifetime prevalence of any mental disorder is calculated as 50%, and disorders has an increasing trend. So, this study aimed to evaluate Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS) among Iranian people. Methods This cross-sectional was conducted with a multi-stage sampling method 1273 people in general population. After searching reviewing various sources, research team decided use questionnaire MHLS 35 items six attributes that were measured developed by O’Connor et al. face, content, construct validity (Confirmatory factor analysis) used validation MHLS. McDonald’s omega coefficient Cronbach’s alpha calculate reliability Confirmatory analysis performed using AMOS software Version 24. Results In CFA test, deleted. final modified version included total 29 consisted (a) knowledge where seek information (4 items), (b) ability recognize (8 (c) self-treatment (2 (d) factors causes (e) attitudes promote recognition or appropriate help-seeking behavior (10 (f) professional help available (3 items). Based on results reliability, all 0.797 0.789, respectively. Conclusion Due lack instruments measuring health literacy population, can be considered valid reliable instrument purpose.
